About Gold Coast tower moves
The Gold Coast has more residential towers than any Australian city outside the inner Sydney and Melbourne CBDs — concentrated along a 10km beachfront strip from Labrador to Coolangatta. Moving in or out of one is a different exercise from a suburban house move.
Goods lift bookings
Virtually every tower above 15 floors in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, and Southport requires a dedicated goods lift booking through the building manager or owners corporation. The standard window is two hours on a weekday, between 8am and 5pm. Some buildings permit Saturday morning windows. The body corporate typically charges a refundable bond (usually $200–$500) and requires padding in the lift cab for the duration of the move.
Buildings that do not have a dedicated goods lift (common in 1980s and 1990s mid-rise blocks) rely on the standard passenger lifts, which are often 90–100cm wide — adequate for most furniture but tight for king-size bed bases, large sofas on their side, and oversized appliances.
Beachside street access
The Gold Coast Highway, Cavill Avenue, Garfield Terrace, and The Esplanade are among the most heavily enforced loading zone streets on the Gold Coast. Time-restricted zones typically allow 15-minute loading windows; without a City of Gold Coast Special Parking Permit (free, applied via the council online portal 3 business days ahead), a truck parked outside a time-restricted zone risks a fine. For most tower moves on these streets, the council permit is essential.
School holiday periods
The Gold Coast experiences the country's most dramatic school-holiday traffic surges — January and September (holiday-let changeovers, domestic tourism peak) and Easter in April. During these windows, goods lift demand in Surfers Paradise towers increases significantly as short-stay (Airbnb, Stayz) tenants rotate. Building managers sometimes restrict goods lift access further during peak periods. We strongly recommend booking your move 3-4 weeks ahead if your date falls in a school holiday window.
Gated communities
Hope Island Resort, Sanctuary Cove, and Coomera Waters are fully gated communities where commercial vehicles must be pre-registered with the estate's security gate. As the resident, you register the truck's vehicle plate with the gate at least 48 hours ahead; we provide the registration details when you confirm your booking.
